Paul Ream has done it! A few days ago, Paul Ream and the boys over at ExtraShot announced they've managed to hack his F5 and record in various frame rates in QFHD and 4K. Ream says he and his fellow podcaster, Steve Adams, came up with the hack after drinking a lot of cold coffee. Well, the pair have actually managed to hack their F5. and it in no way effects warranty. This is because "the procedure" in no way involves opening up the camera body, accessing the electronics, various chips, or image sensor or even screwing with the cameras software or firmware. In fact, it turns out it's a simple text edit easily accomplished on a Mac or Windows system by manipulating one of the ".all" files within the SD card profile save settings text files you can create and edit within the camera user settings. This is possible due to the fact that the inner workings of the camera almost entirely mirror the F55 and the F5 is more than capable to record 4K internally right off the hop. Hop on over to ExtraShot and check out the full procedure and even download Paul's files and get a detailed summary of the various settings, frame rates and formats that have been tested working.
